Aguachile

Spicy and delicious traditional dish from the Sinaloa coast.

Equipment

  • 1 blender
  • 1 kitchen knife
  • 1 bowl
  • 1 strainer
  • 1 basic kitchen utensils

Ingredients

  • 1 lb medium raw shrimp
  • 8 limes
  • 1 serrano pepper
  • 1 small cup of cilantro
  • 1 tsp olive oil

Instructions

  • FOR THE SAUCE:
    Squeeze all lime and place in blender.
  • Cut the serrano in half and remove seeds and veins if you do not want super spicy. If you like spice then leave the serrano whole and throw in blender.
  • Put the cilantro in the mix, add salt, pepper and a small cup of water, blend everything for approximately minute.
  • FOR THE SHRIMP:
    Peel and devein all shrimp.
  • Make a deep cut on the back of the shrimp without completely slicing through, this is what is normally referred to as butterfly shrimp.
  • Place the shrimp on a large plate and spread them evenly and season with salt and pepper.
  • Pour the sauce on the shrimp and enjoy.

Notes

Usually served with tostadas and paired with beer.
