The title for the World’s Largest Shrimp belongs to the Giant Tiger Shrimp (Penaeus monodon) which is found in the Indian Ocean and the Western Pacific. It’s one the most popular shrimp in aquaculture, second only to the White Shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei).
The average size of a Tiger Shrimp ranges from 10 to 14 inches. It is commonly farmed in Southeast Asia, India and Australia and consumed worldwide. Its primary consumer is believed to be Japan followed by the US and some European countries.
